Calmways Founder | Psychotherapist
Joseph Conway
I’m Joseph Conway, a qualified psychotherapist and the founder of Calmways. I created Calmways with a simple aim: to provide a safe, supportive space where people can talk openly and begin to make sense of life’s challenges. Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked across the mental health and wellbeing sector, from private healthcare to training and education. My clinical background is in psychotherapy, and I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
As a therapist, I don’t believe in quick fixes or making grand promises of a “better life.” What I can offer is an honest, down-to-earth approach where you won’t be told what to think, how to feel, or how to behave. Instead, I’ll meet you where you are, walking alongside you at your pace, helping you explore what’s going on and what feels right for you.
Calmways was born from the belief that everyone deserves the chance to feel heard, understood, and supported. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, or life changes, or simply want space to reflect and grow, my role is to provide a confidential, welcoming environment where you can begin to find your way forward.
Counselling at Calmways
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, but it’s also a powerful act of self-care. Counselling provides a safe and confidential space to talk about what’s on your mind, explore difficult emotions, and find new ways forward.
What to Expect
Before we start, I offer a free no obligation 30 minute telephone consultation. This gives us a chance to talk through what you're looking for and decide if counselling feels right for you.
If we do decide to progress then each counselling session lasts up to 50 minutes and typical take place weekly, either face-to-face in my Portsmouth therapy room, online via secure video or telephone.
Our work together is confidential, non-judgemental and tailored to your needs. You set the pace, some people want short-term support, while others prefar a longer jouney.
Cost
Online/Telephone Session: £50
In Person Session: £65
What Counselling Can Help With:

Portsmouth Therapy Room
If you’d prefer to meet in person, Calmways has a dedicated therapy room based in Portsmouth (PO4). The room is set in a purpose-built space, with its own private entrance, offering you discretion, comfort, and ease of access.
In-person counselling gives you the opportunity to step away from the pressures of daily life and talk face-to-face in a safe, confidential setting. The room is warm, welcoming, and designed to help you feel at ease, so you can fully focus on yourself and your wellbeing. Parking is also available for your convenience.
